Your website isn’t generating leads — even after a redesign?

Plenty of businesses redesign a website that produces no enquiries, and get a prettier website that produces no enquiries. Here is why that happens, and what actually changes the number.

The short answer: websites fail to generate leads for reasons that live below the surface — content nobody researched, trust nobody built, speed nobody measured, and no clear next step for the visitor. A typical redesign changes the surface. If yours produced a better-looking site and the same silence, the redesign was almost certainly a template swap: new paint on the same four defects.

This is the most common story we hear from business owners, and the most quietly expensive: they have now paid twice for a website that does not work, and been told both times that it does.

Why the redesign didn’t change anything

Because leads were never about the paint. A visitor becomes an enquiry when the page answers the question they arrived with, in their own words; when something on the page gives them a reason to trust a stranger; when it loads before their patience runs out; and when the next step is obvious and easy. A reskinned template improves none of these. The content is still generic, because no one researched what your customers actually ask. The trust signals are still missing, because a theme cannot know what makes your business credible. And nobody is measuring, so nobody can even say where the visitors give up.

A redesign that keeps the content changes the one thing that was working — the colours.

The diagnosis, in four questions

Ask these about your site, honestly. Does each important page answer a real question your customers ask — or does it describe your business the way an internal brochure would? Is there anything on the page a skeptical stranger would count as proof — real reviews, real work, real specifics? Does it load fast on your own phone, on mobile data, outside your office Wi-Fi? And when a visitor is convinced, is the path to contacting you one obvious tap? Every “no” is a place leads are leaking — and none of them is fixed by another coat of design.

What actually moves the number

Research before design: pages planned around what your buyers search, ask and worry about. Content written to answer, not to fill. Trust assembled deliberately — the proof placed next to the ask. Speed engineered, then measured on real phones. And analytics wired to the actions that matter, so the next change is informed rather than hopeful. This is what separates a website that is built from one that is assembled — and it is why two sites that look similar can perform completely differently.

We wrote a longer, plainer version of this argument — why most business websites fail, and the four template defects behind it. If the pattern sounds like your site, that page will tell you. We are a senior-led studio, India-based, working remotely with businesses worldwide; we will look at your site and tell you honestly what it needs — even when the answer is “less than you feared.”

Sounds familiar?

The four defects that make business websites fail — and what a built-for-the-business site has instead.
