Most websites were never built for the business that owns them.
Outside a thin layer of professionally managed products, the web runs on templates — the same site, resold. This page is what that costs a business, and what we do instead.
Why most business websites fail
Look at almost any business website that isn’t earning traffic, enquiries or trust. Unless it belongs to a product with millions of users and an engineering team behind it, the odds are it started life as a template — a layout built for nobody in particular, sold to everyone.
The same theme serves a dental clinic, a law firm and a property broker. The photos change; the site underneath does not. Four defects follow, every time.
The four defects
Every audit we run scores a site against these. Every build exists to eliminate them.
What a built-for-the-business site has instead
The mirror image of the defects — what professionally built, from-scratch sites have as a matter of course. On every Finercraft project, this list is the product.
Same business, different goal
Even two businesses doing the same work should not get the same site. A clinic chasing walk-ins and a clinic building a specialist reputation have different goals — so the pages, the content and the search strategy must route to different destinations.
That is the deepest problem with templates: they can only ever answer the category. A built site answers the business.
If your competitor’s website looks like yours, we have failed.
